Pet Skills in Castle Clash: The Slot Top Players Agree on Least

For most build slots, top players converge on one or two choices. The pet slot is the exception. Across all 208 heroes in IGG’s top-player data:

  • 70 different pet skills show up as some hero’s #1 pick. The next most varied slot, enchantments, has only 19.
  • The median hero’s top pet is picked just 5.5% of the time.
  • Only 5 heroes have a top pet above 20%.
  • 191 of 208 have a top pet below 10%.

So for most heroes, “best pet” is a weak signal. Knowing that is useful in itself: it’s the slot where you can use whatever you have.

The pet slot on our hero pages lists the pet skill (e.g. Bountiful Gift). Each skill belongs to a specific pet, named in its description, like Jolly Bunny for Bountiful Gift.

The five heroes with a clear pet preference

HeroPet skillPick rate
Bell Elk MaidenBountiful Gift (M)36.1%
Minotaur ChieftainRejuvenate30.9%
CelesticaTentacle Guard (M)29.6%
NecroficaAquatic Heart (M)21.8%
RoninInferno21.6%

What these pets do (IGG’s descriptions):

  • Bountiful Gift (Jolly Bunny): every 6s, heals the lowest-HP friendly hero for 3000% pet ATK and gives them +200% ATK for 15s. While in play, 20% of nearby friendly heroes’ damage is converted to HP.
  • Rejuvenate: every 3.5s, heals the 3 lowest-HP allies for 690% pet ATK and gives them +65% move speed for 2s.
  • Tentacle Guard (King Octopus): when its hero is attacked, heals friendly heroes and gives immunity to one fatal hit within 6s; while in play, +15 energy per second to nearby allies.
  • Aquatic Heart (Marine Mermaid): on critical hits, deals 1280% pet ATK to 3 random enemies, and enemies that cast within 5s lose HP equal to 30% of their skill damage; while in play, +30% ATK SPD to nearby allies.
  • Inferno: 42% chance on attack to set the target’s area on fire for 720% pet ATK over 3s, slowing them.

Most of the clear preferences are sustain pets: heals, fatal-hit immunity, damage-to-HP conversion. On a hero that’s already built well, the pet mostly adds a safety net.

Mutant (M) pets are an Epic thing

Pet skills marked (M) belong to the mutated version of the pet. In IGG’s data the skill text is the same for the base and (M) versions, so the difference is in the pet itself.

  • 52 of the 100 Epic heroes have an (M) pet as their #1 pick, compared with 8 of 91 Legendaries.
  • 95 of 100 Epics have at least one (M) pet in their top five.
  • 87 heroes list both the base and (M) versions of the same pet in their top five. The skill is what matters; top players use whichever version they have, with (M) preferred when available.

If you don’t own the (M) version of a recommended pet, the base version with the same skill name is the natural substitute.

What Legendaries use

Legendary heroes have their own pet pattern, mostly damage and disruption on attack rather than sustain:

Pet skill#1 for (Legendaries)What it does
Drako’s Breath840% chance on attack: 670% pet ATK to a target and those around it, −55 energy
Scythe Slash7When attacked, 60% chance: 490% pet ATK over 5s in an area, −70% ATK SPD; summons a Shade when the hero dies
Nature’s Spite665% chance on attack: 700% pet ATK and Demon Seal for 3.5s
Rainbow Flash656% chance on attack: 770% pet ATK and removes the target’s buffs
Devil’s Fire660% chance on attack: 650% pet ATK to the lowest-HP nearby enemy, −75% ATK and ATK SPD for 3s

Again, the pick rates behind these are low (typically 5–8%), so treat this list as “reasonable options,” not “requirements.”

A note on Warding Breath

The old advice to “just use Droggo” has some basis: Warding Breath (Droggo) is Dynamica’s top pet at 14.5%. When the hero is attacked, it puts an undispellable shield on the nearest ally that reflects 75% of damage for 4s and gives +120% ATK. It’s a solid pet, but no longer the default it once was.

How to choose a pet

  1. Check the hero page. If the top pet is above ~20% (rare), get it.
  2. Otherwise, match the pet to the hero’s weakness. Dies too fast → sustain (Bountiful Gift, Tentacle Guard, Rejuvenate). Needs to cast more → energy (Tentacle Guard’s +15/s). Needs more damage → on-attack damage pets (Drako’s Breath, Nature’s Spite).
  3. Base and (M) versions are interchangeable for build purposes.
  4. Don’t spend heavily chasing a pet for a hero whose top pet is under 10%. Top players don’t agree on it either.
