Holy Conviction and the Rest: What Top Players Enchant in Castle Clash

The enchantment slot (listed as Equipment on our hero pages) has the most lopsided data in the game. One enchantment, Holy Conviction, is the #1 pick for 102 of the 191 heroes that have enchantment data. The interesting part is the exceptions, and what the Legendary data tells us.

Elite and Ordinary heroes have no enchantment data in IGG’s top-player set, so this article covers the 100 Epic and 91 Legendary heroes.

Holy Conviction: the Epic default

Effect: reduces damage received by 85% and increases the hero’s healing received by 320%.

RarityHeroes with Holy Conviction as #1
Epic78 of 100
Legendary24 of 91

The two halves work together. 85% damage reduction stacks with the damage reduction already built into many Epic kits, and +320% healing received multiplies every heal the hero gets, including their own. Most modern Epics have self-healing somewhere in their passives, which is why the enchantment fits so many of them.

Heroes with the strongest Holy Conviction consensus:

HeroPick rateWhy it fits
Necrofica77.8%Already has 70% damage reduction and heals 5% Max HP when attacked plus 30% on each execution
Bell Elk Maiden67.9%Sturdy, Snow Defense stacks, needs to survive to keep her domains up
Cyclonica66.3%Bloodlust attacker built on the same pattern
Miracle Puppet59.8%One of the most settled Epic builds overall (87.2% Accuracy)
Dynamica58.0%Regens 6% HP per second below half HP, so healing received matters a lot

The Epic exceptions

For about a fifth of Epics, top players pick something else. Each exception follows from the hero’s skill.

Abyss Seal: the energy drainers (8 Epics)

Effect: immune to Inhibit for 3s every 5s; when each window ends, all enemy heroes lose 100 energy, ignoring condition immunity.

Used by: Red Queen 57.2%, Celestica 52.7%, Bone Butcher 33.7%, Melody 22.9%, Lumiglade 20.6%.

These are disruption heroes. A team-wide energy drain every 5 seconds delays every enemy skill, and on a hero like Celestica, whose Confusion turns enemy skills against their own team, it keeps the enemy off balance all fight.

Serpent’s Force: the burst attackers (4 Epics)

Effect: every 7s, for 3s, +180% ATK and ignores DMG-to-HP Conversion.

Used by: Tusked Menace 45.3%, Malefica 42.9%, Rosespecter 30.2%, Tai Lung 30.0%.

Conversion effects turn incoming damage into healing. A hero whose damage comes in big bursts loses a lot if a burst lands during a conversion window, and Serpent’s Force removes that risk on a timer.

Bold Ambition: Serratica only

Effect: every 7s, for 3s, +90% crit rate and all damage ignores damage reflection.

Serratica is the only hero in the database with Bold Ambition as its #1 enchantment (36.9%). Killer Scales hits 8 targets every second for 5 seconds, which is a lot of chances to trigger reflect. Bold Ambition shuts reflect off for 3 of every 7 seconds.

The Legendary picture: almost no consensus

For Legendaries the data looks very different:

Enchantment#1 for (Legendaries)Avg. pick rate when #1
Malaise419.5%
Holy Conviction2418.9%
Pyremage720.1%
Hyper Strength519.6%
Forest Ward412.2%

Malaise (removes all healing from 4 random enemy heroes for 8s, 8s cooldown) is technically the most common #1 enchantment for Legendaries. But the average pick rate is under 10%. The highest is Cirrina at 12.1%. Top players simply don’t agree on enchantments for Legendaries. The most likely reason is that top players rarely put serious enchantments on Legendaries at all, so the top pick wins by a tiny margin out of a small sample.

The exceptions with clear preferences:

  • Pyremage (summons a Pyremage that casts a 1280% comet every 6s): Trixie Treat 30.8%, Gunslinger 26.6%, Siren 23.8%. The same Legendaries also tend to run Sunder + Brawler’s Favor.
  • Hyper Strength: Minotaur Chieftain 33.4%.

What this means for your resources

  1. Holy Conviction is the default for Epics. If you’re unsure, it’s #1 for 78% of them, and in the top five for 147 heroes overall.
  2. Check your Epic’s skill for three things before choosing something else: does it disrupt energy/skills (Abyss Seal), deal burst damage (Serpent’s Force), or land many hits (Bold Ambition)?
  3. Don’t overthink Legendary enchantments. The data shows top players don’t have a preference. Spend those resources on Epics first.

Every hero page has a “How settled is each slot?” table that tells you at a glance whether the enchantment choice is near-universal or open.
