The Most-Used Talents in Castle Clash, Ranked by Top-Player Data
Talent guides usually list the “best” talents. We took a different approach: for each of the 208 heroes in IGG’s official hero data, we looked at the talent top players pick most often and counted which ones come up. The result is a map of what the community has converged on, hero by hero.
The headline numbers
Only 26 different talents show up as a hero’s #1 pick. Two of them cover almost half the roster.
| Talent | #1 pick for | In top 5 for | Avg. pick rate when #1 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revive | 50 heroes | 171 heroes | 36.0% |
| Sacred Light | 44 heroes | 171 heroes | 23.0% |
| Flame Guard | 29 heroes | 96 heroes | 16.3% |
| Revitalize | 22 heroes | 121 heroes | 16.7% |
| Dragon’s Cover | 10 heroes | 66 heroes | 21.5% |
| Sunder | 9 heroes | 17 heroes | 26.5% |
| Bloodlust | 9 heroes | 46 heroes | 48.4% |
| War God | 5 heroes | 30 heroes | 15.0% |
“In top 5” matters as much as “#1”. Revive and Sacred Light both appear in the top five for 171 of 208 heroes. Even when they aren’t the first choice, they’re almost always a reasonable fallback.
What each one does
These are IGG’s official effect descriptions at max level:
- Revive: revive 2 times with 100% HP each time.
- Sacred Light: +120% Max HP and 70% damage reduction.
- Flame Guard: +80% HP and deflects 55% of damage taken.
- Revitalize: full energy at the start of battle, +120% ATK for 10s.
- Dragon’s Cover: 70% damage reduction, reflected damage taken capped at 5,000.
- Sunder: attacks deal (100% ATK + 18,000) extra damage, with a 20% chance to also deal 30% of the target’s Max HP.
- Bloodlust: +100% ATK; against enemy heroes below 50% HP, +300% ATK for 3s and ignores invulnerability (4s cooldown).
- War God: +200% ATK.
Epics and Legendaries want different things
Split the data by rarity and two different patterns appear.
Epic heroes (100):
| Talent | #1 for |
|---|---|
| Revive | 41 |
| Sacred Light | 24 |
| Dragon’s Cover | 9 |
| Bloodlust | 9 |
Legendary heroes (91):
| Talent | #1 for |
|---|---|
| Flame Guard | 25 |
| Sacred Light | 20 |
| Revitalize | 11 |
| Revive | 8 |
The difference is clear:
- Revive is mostly an Epic talent. 41 of the 50 heroes that run it as #1 are Epics. Epic kits are built around repeated skill casts with passive defenses, so two full revives means two more rounds of casting.
- Flame Guard is almost entirely a Legendary talent. 25 of its 29 #1 slots are Legendaries. Legendaries have much lower base HP (median 2,900 vs 12,500 for Epics), and Flame Guard’s +80% HP plus 55% damage deflection gives them both durability and damage back.
- Bloodlust and Dragon’s Cover are Epic-only in practice. All 9 Bloodlust #1 heroes are Epics, and 9 of 10 Dragon’s Cover heroes are too.
- Revitalize is the budget pick. It’s #1 for 11 Legendaries, 6 of the 9 Elites and 5 of the 8 Ordinary heroes. On cheaper heroes whose only job is to cast once quickly, a full-energy start is the best thing you can give them.
Bloodlust: rare but decisive
Bloodlust is only #1 for 9 heroes, but when it’s #1, top players pick it 48.4% of the time on average, the highest of any talent. The heroes that use it really depend on it:
| Hero | Bloodlust pick rate |
|---|---|
| Bell Elk Maiden | 73.5% |
| Soulsnare Butterfly | 59.7% |
| Malefica | 56.1% |
| Tusked Menace | 55.5% |
| Serratica | 48.4% |
| Cyclonica | 41.4% |
All of these are Epic attackers whose skills hit many targets over several seconds. That fits Bloodlust’s “once they’re below 50%” bonus.
Sacred Light: popular but rarely unanimous
Sacred Light is the opposite. It’s #1 on 44 heroes but averages only 23% when it is. The strongest Sacred Light heroes are Flower Fae (38.7%) and Sword Sage (38.4%). For most of the other 42, it wins narrowly over another defensive talent. So Sacred Light is a safe choice, but if you already own a comparable defensive talent, you probably don’t need to reroll for it.
Talent and insignia go together
A hero’s talent and round insignia are chosen together. These are the most common #1 + #1 pairings:
| Talent + Insignia | Heroes |
|---|---|
| Sacred Light + Empower Insignia | 22 |
| Revive + Survival Insignia | 20 |
| Revive + Revitalize Insignia | 18 |
| Revive + Empower Insignia | 10 |
| Revitalize + Oracle’s Favor Insignia | 8 |
| Sunder + Brawler’s Favor Insignia | 8 |
Revive + Survival Insignia is worth noting. Survival (negate all damage for 3s and heal 2500% ATK when attacked, 7.5s cooldown) protects each life, and Revive gives more lives to protect.
Also remember that a talent and an insignia with the same name don’t stack. Only the higher-level one is active. If your hero already has Sacred Light as a talent, a Sacred Light Insignia is wasted on it.
How to use this
- Check your hero’s page first. Every hero page shows its top five talents with pick rates and a “how settled is each slot” rating.
- If the top talent is above ~40%, aim for it. That’s a strong consensus.
- If it’s under ~20%, don’t burn resources rerolling for it. Any of the top three will do. Check which of them you already have.
- Match the rarity pattern. On an Epic you’ll rarely go wrong with Revive or Sacred Light. On a Legendary, Flame Guard or Sacred Light.
