Castle Clash Hero Roles Explained: How Each Class Is Built Differently

IGG sorts every hero into one of five groups: Offensive, Defensive, Crowd Control, Support and Multiclass. The group is more than a label. Top players build each group differently, and knowing the pattern gives you a sensible starting build for a hero you haven’t looked up yet.

How the roster is split

GroupTotalEpicLegendaryElite / Ordinary
Offensive8042299
Support5029192
Crowd Control3512185
Defensive229121
Multiclass218130

Offensive heroes are the biggest group, and more than half of them are Epics. Crowd Control and Defensive heroes lean Legendary.

Offensive heroes

What they do: damage, mostly from skills. Epic offensive heroes have a median of 415 ATK and 12,000 HP.

Top-player pattern:

  • Talent: split between Sacred Light (15), Revive (14) and Flame Guard (10). The strongest agreement is on the Bloodlust heroes, where it’s often above 50% (Bell Elk Maiden, Malefica, Tusked Menace).
  • Insignia: Wicked Armor and Empower tie at 13 each, then Revitalize (10). Offensive is the only group where Wicked Armor is joint #1. Heroes that hit a lot need protection from reflect.
  • Square insignia: Winged Rebirth (31), Tyranny (11, all Legendaries).
  • Enchantment: Holy Conviction (36).
  • Trait: Accuracy is #1 for 39 of 42 Epic offensive heroes.

Default build for an offensive Epic: damage talent or Revive, Wicked Armor or Empower, Winged Rebirth, Holy Conviction, Accuracy.

Support heroes

What they do: buff allies, heal, or debuff enemies. Their value is team-wide, so staying alive to cast again is the priority.

Top-player pattern:

  • Talent: Revive (19) and Sacred Light (14) dominate.
  • Insignia: Empower is #1 for 22 of 50, the strongest group-level pattern in the game. More energy means more buffs.
  • Square insignia: Winged Rebirth (30).
  • Enchantment: Holy Conviction (30), with Abyss Seal as a notable alternative.
  • Trait: Accuracy for 21 of 29 Epic supports, but HP for 7. Supports are the main group where HP beats Accuracy.

Example: Sword Sage uses Sacred Light + Empower and is the textbook case.

Crowd Control heroes

What they do: stun, freeze, confuse, disarm, lock down.

Top-player pattern:

  • Talent: Revive (10), Revitalize (8).
  • Insignia: Revitalize is #1 for 15 of 35. Control is worth the most at the start of a fight, before the enemy acts, so crowd controllers want full energy immediately.
  • Square insignia: Winged Rebirth (15), Blood Barrier (5).
  • Trait: Accuracy for all 12 Epic crowd controllers. Control that misses does nothing.

Default build: Revive or Revitalize talent, Revitalize Insignia, Accuracy.

Defensive heroes

What they do: absorb damage and protect the team. The highest HP group (Epic median 14,000) and often short-ranged (median range 4 across the group).

Top-player pattern:

  • Talent: Flame Guard is #1 for 7 of 22, the only group where it leads. More HP plus 55% damage deflection suits a hero whose job is to get hit.
  • Insignia: Sacred Light Insignia (8), Survival (5).
  • Square insignia: split between Tyranny and Winged Rebirth (5 each), then Blood Barrier (3).
  • Enchantment: Holy Conviction (12), with Forest Ward (removes conditions and fully heals when attacked, 80% chance) showing up as well.

Example: Rambard and Lavanica, both Dodge-trait Legendaries.

Multiclass heroes

What they do: combine two roles, usually damage plus something else. The highest-ATK group among Epics (median 435).

Top-player pattern: the least uniform group.

  • Talent: Sacred Light (5), Flame Guard (3), Dragon’s Cover (3), Sunder (2).
  • Insignia: Brawler’s Favor (5), Revitalize (4), Empower (4).
  • Square insignia: Winged Rebirth (7), Inspire (6), Tyranny (4).

Multiclass heroes like Dynamica and Serratica often have unusual builds (Battle Ardor, Bold Ambition) that no other hero uses. Always check the hero page for a Multiclass hero. The group default is least reliable here.
