Accuracy vs Dodge: Which Trait Top Players Actually Pick
The trait slot is where Castle Clash players argue most about Dodge vs Accuracy, and it’s where the top-player data is clearest. Of the 191 heroes with trait data (Elite and Ordinary heroes have none), Accuracy is the #1 trait for 126.
The numbers
| Trait | #1 pick for | Appears in data for | Mostly on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Accuracy | 126 heroes | 188 heroes | Epics (88) and Legendaries (38) |
| Dodge | 29 heroes | 79 heroes | Legendaries (26 of 29) |
| HP | 19 heroes | 152 heroes | Supports (12 of 19) |
| ATK | 17 heroes | 152 heroes | Legendaries (all 17) |
| Crit | 0 heroes | 2 heroes | — |
Crit DMG and Tenacity don’t appear in the top-player data for any hero. If you’re rolling traits, those two are not what top players aim for.
Why Accuracy wins
The usual explanation of the mechanic is simple: your chance to hit a dodging target is your hit rate minus their dodge rate. A hero at 110% hit rate attacking a target with 30% dodge actually lands 80% of the time.
Two things follow from that:
- Dodge only works if the attacker lacks Accuracy. If most damage dealers run Accuracy (and they do), dodge stacking gets weaker across the whole game.
- Missed hits cost the attacker more than extra dodge saves the defender. A damage dealer that misses loses its whole purpose. A defender with less dodge still has its other defenses: most Epics carry 70%+ built-in damage reduction, Holy Conviction, Sturdy and similar effects.
The data matches. Among Epic heroes, Accuracy is #1 for 88 of 100, including 39 of the 42 Epic offensive heroes and all 12 Epic crowd control heroes. The median Epic Accuracy pick rate is 51.9%, so it’s usually a majority decision, not just a plurality.
Heroes where it’s close to unanimous:
| Hero | Accuracy pick rate |
|---|---|
| Bell Elk Maiden | 90.7% |
| Soulsnare Butterfly | 89.6% |
| Necrofica | 87.6% |
| Miracle Puppet | 87.2% |
| Red Queen | 85.1% |
| Cyclonica | 82.7% |
When Dodge is the right call
Dodge is #1 for 29 heroes, and 26 of them are Legendaries. That fits: Legendaries don’t have Epic-level built-in defenses (median base HP 2,900 vs 12,500 for Epics), so avoiding hits completely is worth more to them.
The strongest Dodge heroes:
| Hero | Dodge pick rate |
|---|---|
| Wallawalla | 59.4% |
| Ronin | 56.7% |
| Lavanica | 55.8% |
| Rambard | 53.5% |
| Commodora | 51.7% |
| Ripper | 51.6% |
Lavanica and Rambard are long-serving defensive Legendaries. Their value is in staying alive, not landing hits, so dodge makes more sense for them than accuracy.
Only 3 Epics have Dodge as their top trait.
When HP is the right call
HP is #1 for 19 heroes, and 12 are supports. For a hero whose value is a team buff or heal, surviving to cast again matters more than landing basic attacks.
| Hero | HP pick rate |
|---|---|
| Luminah | 59.2% |
| Mystrix | 54.8% |
| Lumiglade | 54.5% |
| Shadow Baron | 52.3% |
| Evil Eye | 48.2% |
| Colossus | 39.0% |
Among Epic supports, 7 of 29 run HP as #1. Sword Sage is a borderline case (HP 34.0% vs Accuracy 27.9%).
When ATK is the right call
ATK is #1 for 17 heroes, all Legendaries, and mostly the Sunder / Brawler’s Favor / Pyremage damage group:
| Hero | ATK pick rate |
|---|---|
| Minotaur Chieftain | 70.4% |
| Dread Drake | 43.6% |
| Trixie Treat | 39.3% |
| Siren | 37.8% |
| Beast Tamer | 36.9% |
A simple rule
- Epic damage dealer or crowd controller? Accuracy. It’s not close.
- Epic support? Accuracy or HP. Check the hero page; it’s often split.
- Defensive Legendary? Dodge.
- Legendary damage dealer with Sunder or Brawler’s Favor? ATK.
- Crit, Crit DMG, Tenacity? Top players don’t use them.
